Safer Homes, Healthier Lives

A Self Training Toolkit linked to the
Housing Health & Safety Rating System

The Safer Homes, Healthier Lives Self Training Toolkit is designed to explain the implications of the introduction of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) and provide those who are using HHSRS with the opportunity to practice its wider application.

We have also written two case studies that illustrate good practice in applying the principles of the Housing Health & Safety Rating System to local housing strategies and public health strategies. They are available on the Improvement & Development Agency (IDeA) website. Click onSEASHORE Case Study (PDF, 10 pages, 223KB) and Poole Home Safety Case Study (PDF, 10 pages, 218KB) to download the case studies, in PDF format.

The kit is available to download free of charge (see below). It is also available on CD for which there is a small charge to cover our costs (currently £10.00). To order the self training kit on CD contact info@careandrepair-england.org.uk

We are monitoring the type of organisations accessing the self training kit e.g. local authority, voluntary organisation, individual etc. and which county you are based in. You do not have to submit your email address to access the information. If you do it will enable us to send you a self training kit questionnaire in the future, your email details will be held on a computerised database solely for this purpose.
